Exhibit Dates
September 15 - March 1
As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Ritz Theatre and Museum, a significant milestone in our journey to preserve the history and culture of LaVilla, we honor the profound resilience of the Black community in the face of erasure. The Ritz, a living testament to this resilience, was born out of the community's unwavering commitment to preserving its history. This year, we invite you to envision: What would you leave behind if your community faced erasure today?
Whether LaVilla is your hometown or your new home, your connection to it is invaluable. What aspects of your community do you cherish and wish to share with others? If asked to prove your ties to Jacksonville, what would you present?
This exhibit is a vibrant tapestry of diverse themes inspired by the concept of Proof to these artists. From religion and community to conception, family, history, and shared memory, each artist's unique interpretation of these themes is a fascinating journey into their deep connection to their community, inviting you to explore and discover.
